FIVE clubs in the Perth Football District have become the first in the State to receive Bronze Awards in the West Australian Football Commission’s new Quality Club Program.
The clubs – Manning Football Club, South Perth Junior Football Club, Belmont Junior Football Club, Maddington Junior Football Club and Thornlie Junior Football Club – all took part in the pilot version of the program conducted in the latter half of 2009.
The concept of the Quality Club Program is to provide an opportunity for all community football clubs in WA to achieve a minimum standard of club administration and to recognise and reward clubs for their achievements in reaching these.
Clubs can achieve the three levels of Bronze, Silver and Gold, with Bronze representing a base level commitment to providing a quality club environment for players, spectators, parents, coaches and umpires.
Maddington Junior Football Club President Simon Pontifex said the Quality Club Program had provided his club with the opportunity to become more organized and more structured, and ensured all volunteers had an improved understanding of their roles and the future direction of the club.
“The Quality Club Program has allowed our strong leadership team [committee] to further develop their knowledge and skills in club management, and has provided our small club with the focus to continually strive to improve for the young players of today and the future,” Mr Pontifex said.
Following the initial pilot phase of the program, the WAFC now has 126 clubs engaged in the program across WA and looks forward to announcing the first Silver and Gold level clubs in the coming weeks.
