More new blood joins Demons

Perth have added a further two fresh faces to the mix for 2018 with East Perth defender Mitchell Lague and East Fremantle wingman Richard Bourne (jnr) each signing two year deals with the Club.

24-year-old Lague has played 13 league games for the Royals and will be a welcome addition to the backline with his size and strength.

“If I can hit a good tempo and get in some good form and hold that throughout the year and be comfortable with where I’m at, I’d be happy,” Lague said.

“East Perth had some really good, experienced leaders around like Craig Wulff and Kyle Anderson who I learned a lot from.

“I want to bring a bit of that here and try and rub some of it off on the younger guys.”

Bourne represented WA during the State 18s program in 2013 before playing five league games for East Fremantle in 2014.

The exciting 22-year-old has spent the past three seasons playing in the country where he claimed the Mitchell Medal (Goldfields Football League fairest and best) in 2015 and the Hepburn Medal (Esperance Football League fairest and best) in 2017.

“I’ve come here to play league footy,” Bourne said.

“My strengths are my speed and agility.”

Perth Football Operations Manager Dale Ballantyne said the duo will help bolster the Club's lineup.

“Two of the areas that we identified to strengthen in the off-season were our key defensive positions and our outside run," Ballantyne said.

"Mitch and Richie have the skill, experience and ability to fill these roles at senior  level in 2018 and we welcome them to Lathlain Park.

"Since arriving at the club, the boys have shown some great leadership potential and have easily fitted in with the senior playing group."

The playing group will train for the final time on Friday evening before having a two week break over Christmas.

Ballantyne said he's pleased with where the group is at going in to Christmas but knows there is plenty of work ahead.

"Our pre-Christmas training has been very productive and we are very satisfied with the effort and the improvement shown throughout the six week block," Ballantyne said.

"We have worked hard on our identified areas of deficiency in 2017 and our playing group look stronger and very fit as they enter the Christmas break”.

The playing group resume training on Monday the 8th of January.
