Remembering Brett Claudius

Monday, December 24, 2018 - 7:56 AM

The tragic passing of former player Brett Claudius has had a profound effect on the Perth Football Club.

Brett was a much loved player at Perth, having come through the Junior Development Squads and Colts program to represent the Club at League level in 43 games, from 2000 to 2006.

His final year was his best. From 20 matches, he finished tenth in that years Sandover Medal voting.

Joining the WAFC as a Development Officer he moved to Broome, where he was extremely well regarded, in particular through his work  with young indigenous people.

We believe Brett sought specialist help in Broome, however this was not forthcoming. Brett took his life just before Christmas.

The loss of Brett will be felt very heavily by many in the football community and brings into firm focus the Club’s endeavours in partnering with Outside The Locker Room ( OTLR ).

Our players have undergone mentoring programs run by OTLR over the last couple of years with a view to providing assistance to anyone feeling that life’s difficulties are getting on top of them. Knowing there is a helping hand available is of considerable help to any young person and assists them in progressing through problem times.

Sincere condolences have been expressed to Brett’s family at this extremely difficult time.

If you or anyone you know are experiencing hard times, we urge you to contact Outside the Locker Room or Lifeline on 13 14 14.

The Oustide the Locker Room app is available for download on the App Store and Google Play.
