PERTH DEMONS COACHES ACADEMY RECOGNISED
The Perth Football Club undertook an initiative in 2016 to commence a district based Coaches Academy, with the aim to engage coaches from our junior zoned clubs, deemed to have the capacity to impact and share back to coaching peers at their respective clubs, improved coaching methods and techniques. The overall premise being 'better coaches help produce better players'.
Since its inception in 2016, and in subsequent seasons, some 30 coaches have now progressed through the Perth Demons Coaches Academy. These coaches have been great conduits for sharing back their new knowledge and understandings to club peers, and some have progressed onto being involved in Perth Demons development squads, as well as being given opportunities to attend AFL Level 2 accreditation courses.
Feedback about the nature and content of this Academy has been extremely positive from participants and Clubs. The WAFC has been supportive of this initiative since inception and now as further acknowledgement the Academy will evolve even more in 2019 where the models of Perth FC, East Perth and Swan Districts will combine coaching curriculums, with that of WAFC, to provide coaches with an even broader and richer coaching experience.
As such, the newly formed Metro Central Youth Community Coach Academy will allow all participants who complete assigned coaching modules to count towards reaccreditation with Coach AFL. Coaches will continue to have access to Colts and Futures training and games, match viewing and mentoring. The program will also enhance development coaching opportunities with their respective WAFL Clubs.
