2020 Player Auction is LIVE!

Tuesday, July 7, 2020 - 10:24 PM

Just like last year, you can pre-bid on your group of choice through the online auction. All bids will be finalised following the preseason match v Swans on Saturday, 11 July. More details about the match are here.

This year, senior player Matt Rogers has written scintillating descriptions of the groups. Those who were at the Butcher Medal night will remember how long Roge's speech was, and these bios are no different. Grab a cold one, make a cuppa... have a read and get ready to place a bid.

You can bid online here.

GROUP ONE

CHRIS MASTEN

With 215 AFL games and a premiership to his name, we all know what Chris can bring for us on the field. His hard run and vocal leadership have stood out to date and the younger players are learning with every session. Off the field, a new job has exposed Chris’ passion for selling and, more importantly, tasting wine, so don’t be surprised if you find him parked up next to Chubby Stiles with a bottle of red after the first home win.

RICHARD BOURNE (Jnr)

The term smooth mover gets thrown around a bit too often these days, but Richie Bourne is the definition of smooth. With an electric turn of foot and a sidestep no one sees, coming he is a very exciting prospect for 2020. Rumour has it that he has officially be declared at 200 times quicker than the skipper Corey Yeo.

JACK RICHARDSON

After a year off giving the girls a hard time at college in the U.S., former Claremont player Jack Richardson has seen the light and switched colours to the red and black. He is a midsized forward who leads hard and has a nice set of hands. While most of his best work is done at the Claremont Hotel, this private school boy can seriously play, so we are excited to see what he can bring in 2020.

DARBY McCARTHY

He showed a fantastic goal sense as a small forward in the Reserves last year, kicking multiple goals on several occasions. Darby will be looking to put his hand up for the vacant forward pocket role this season and can kick them from anywhere. It is questionable that he wears a hat at training in the middle of winter but don’t hold that against him.

ZAC CASEY

The accumulator, Zac has a fantastic ability to find the footy. As demonstrated in the Reserves last year his work around the stoppage is first class and the coaching staff expect him to step up with his training and performance in the coming years. A solidly built country lad he is sure to be in the face of the umpires to get you a return.

DYLAN WILLIAMS

Another victim of the COVID haircut pandemic, this blonde tipped midfielder has come across from the Sharks and has family ties to the club. He trains hard, takes the game on and isn’t afraid to get in and under with his tackling work. Expect Dylan to improve every week and to put in some strong performances as year goes on.

ETHAN HANSEN

We can promise you that this kid plays better than how his haircut looks. A silky mover with clean skills, 2020 is the year that Ethan takes the next step. He played some cracking games in the reserves last year and has a bright future in our League team if he continues to work hard.

COREY BYRNE

This fella has lived a roller coaster life over the last 12 months. After putting together a state team worthy start to the year last year he was struck down with a shoulder before returning with good form late in the year. This year he has unfortunately been diagnosed with a minor health condition that will see him out of action for a little while. What you do need to know is he hasn’t missed a session despite his illness, and you can be sure as soon as he is back, he will have an impact. Fingers crossed we see you soon and all the best Byrner.

GROUP TWO

COREY YEO

The skipper, the king, the reptile himself: Corey Yeo. Boasting a heavy Bunker Diary chassis, this self-proclaimed wrecking ball is looking for a big year with some handy new midfielders around him. He will no doubt be in the thick of things in the middle of the ground and there are sure to be some entertaining scenes when Yeoy and Masto are on the ball together. So long as we keep him and his Hawaii 5-0 statements from the media, Yeoy should be looking good this year.

CLAYTON GIBLETT

Thankfully you are putting your hand into your pocket for his football ability, because Gibba won’t be winning any spelling bees anytime soon. Whilst he is not a rocket scientist, he is an extremely reliable fullback who is rarely beaten one on one and is constantly taking the oppositions number one key forward. A natural clown, he has grown to become a respected leader of the group and his workman-like approach will no doubt set him up for another great year.

ZARETH ROE

Possessing an unbelievable vertical leap, Zareth is a very exciting talent who showed incredible promise with some big games up forward last year. To his credit he is working hard outside of footy and this has impacted his ability to train consistently, but he is a fantastic kid who will no doubt take mark of the year when he gets his chance.

LACHLAN DENNIS

After a fairly injury riddled career, Lachie has had a clean run at training this preseason and as a result is extremely fit.  His work rate and footy smarts are his strongest attribute and his leadership on and off the field is second to none. Lachie will play across half forward and you can expect his sticky hands to result in some sausage rolls in 2020

JACK BODLE

Bodle has opted for the opposite gym program to Yeoy, however this allows him to cover the ground very well. Jack has neat skills and can play all over the ground, he had some eye-catching performances in the Reserves last year and will be looking to nail down a spot for 2020.

JACK AMOS

A tall ruckman recruited from East Perth; Jack is adding some great depth to our tall division. He moves around the ground well, can take a mark and will no doubt have influence on some games in 2020. Expect Jac to get better and better as he grows in confidence.

LOGAN McDONALD

You’ve heard of Wayne Carey, Nick Reiwoldt and Buddy Franklin. Well, this kid tells me he is better than them all combined. Although he is still Colts age Logan is a genuine talent. As your saw in the scratchy against West Perth, he has strong hands in the air, yet is mobile and nimble at ground level. There’s no doubt he will be lost to the 18’s program but we will take him either side of that. There are bigger and better things to come for Logan.

JARED BELL

This luckless half back unfortunately suffered yet another knee injury just after re-discovering his best form early last year. Despite this, Belly hasn’t given up on his dream and has been recently cited doing some running, some swift walk and many waddle-walks around the perimeter of Mineral Resources Park. With a young bundle of joy coming into his life over the summer, Belly has sacrificed some serious time on the golf course and has even been rumoured to have worked a complete four-day week. Whilst it would be an optimistic investment, you would be supporting one of the great Perth people. Onya, Belly.

GROUP THREE

MICHAEL SINCLAIR

The most experienced Perth player on our list and a past Butcher Medallist, Sincs is an ever-reliable half back. Whilst it can be difficult to identify who his direct opponent is at times, he is forever taking amazing intercept marks and getting across to help his fellow backmen out. With some more experience around him in 2020, you can expect Michael to put up some big numbers again… unless he wakes up to a rain affected weather forecast that threatens to ruin his immaculate hair.

RYAN MURPHY

Another former Claremont Tiger, Murph is a neat little player who accumulates plenty of footy and uses it well across half back. He has been trialled on the wing and as a forward pocket in the preseason which makes him a versatile selection. If he reaches his peak form and fitness expect big things from the pocket rocket.

JACOB CONIGLIO

Brother of the Giant’s Steven, Jakey will be out to forge his own WAFL career. After some solid games in the black and white and more recently with Perth after jumping onboard mid-2019, Cogs will be looking to lock down a spot as a small defender in 2020. An honest role player who can break the lines, his leadership and experience holds him in good stead for the season ahead. If in doubt buy him for the surname.

KASEY NICHOLAS

This long-haired yahoo can be found chasing barrels in the off season, but in season he is a hard and tough half back who isn’t afraid to throw his skinny frame in front of harms way. A brilliant wet weather player who played some consistent team orientated football in 2019, Kase will be looking to make his spot in the backline his own. Cowabunga dude.

FRASER BARNS

Depending on who you ask, this guy is a cult hero or villain amongst the playing group. Barndorf has the size and shape to become a premier ruckman and only hard work and determination will get him there. Still a young-un, there is plenty of upside about Fraser so hopefully he can surprise a few in 2020.

LIAM DELLAMARTA

A young wingman who Gary Moss has big wraps on has joined us from the East Perth. Liam is a neat and balanced player with a damaging kick when he is given time and space. There is plenty to like about this kid at such a young age so keep a close eye on his expected development over the year.

CHRISTIAN MARTIN

This goal kicking machine joined us from the Subiaco mid-2019 and his impact was felt immediately kicking several snags in the magoos. His awkward height and clever goal sense make him a dangerous forward which was rewarded with a gig in the practice matches. If Marto gets his defensive work rate up and continues to grow in confidence, he is one who can have an impact at League level this year.

SIMON HAYWARD

Little Simmo is a nugget, the kind of guy who spends as much time at the tribunal as he does on the park, but that’s why we love him. The reigning Colts Best and Fairest is a touch inside mid who doesn’t take a backward step. He is fighting off a few injury concerns at the moment, but when fit the opposition will know when Simmo is playing. Hope to see you out there soon mate.

GROUP FOUR

BRADY GREY

Those who support the Dockers would be familiar with this hard-nosed mid. Brady has come across following a year with the West Coast Reserves and is hungry to get stuck in. A natural leader with a fantastic work rate he will compliment our midfield and give us some in and under grunt. A “grey”t way to kick off group 4 – Brady Grey.

GUY LANGDON

As the unofficial club chaplain Langers has become an extremely popular member of the group. He managed to play every single League game last year after coming down from Dampier, which was an amazing effort. After working his butt off competing at half forward he found his calling down back later in the year with some great spoils and handy pack marks. Guy is sure to improve in his second year at the club and is a sound investment for both his football and off field mentoring roles. As the good man says, God bless.

MITCH HENDERSON

If you were heading into the trenches, Hendo is the man you want by your side. The ultimate teammate and clubman, he is a terrific leader to our younger players. He can play anywhere on the ground and has had success playing his role across half back and on some of the League’s best midfielders. Hendo has worked as hard as anyone and will no doubt be pushing his case for regular League selection in 2020. A reliable buy.

BLAKE JOHNSON

Although he kicked six goals in the last couple of League games last year, he may be better known for his skittles video on Instagram. Follow “@byblake” for more info. All skittles aside though, BJ is a hard-working and athletic player with leadership aspirations. Normally a forward and back up ruck he was trialled at centre half back vs West Perth and held his own. It is this versatility and work ethic that will hold Blakey in good stead for season 2020

ANDRIES MERCER

An underrated workhorse with a fantastic left foot kick, we are waiting for Merce to have the confidence in his ability and take a season by the scruff of the neck. 2020 could be the year for this, having spent some time in the system and a League experience a few years ago, Merce should be looking to make the half back flank or wing his own in a push to return to the top level. Turn on beast most Andries!

JAMIE WILSON

Coming up from the Colts, Jamie has had a wretched run with injury but has managed to piece together some consistency in his training in the recent weeks. A hit out in the scratchy will do him no harm as he learns what it takes to become a senior player. With a good mindset and work ethic there is no reason why Jamie won’t improve out of sight in the next three months.

JAYDEN QUILL

This fella hasn’t stopped smiling since he walked in the front door after starting his career at Shark Park. An extremely coachable young player, Quilly can play a number of roles but impressed as a small forward in the scratchy vs West Perth. He is constantly reminding the group that he kicked six goals in one quarter for trinity so hopefully he can replicate that for Perth. His work ethic and willingness to learn make Quilly a handy addition and we are excited to see what he offers in the proper season.

GROUP FIVE

BRANT COLLEDGE

Former Butcher Medallist, Moose is in for another big year, for better or for worse. He has moved in with our skipper, and only time will tell if that was a wise move. Whilst he wasn’t blessed with the speed of Usain Bolt, he is an experience midfielder who can float forward and snag a few. Moose is an excellent clearance player and he will be hungry to get back to his 2018 form.

ZAC HILL

A terrific young defender who has also had some rotten injury luck in recent times. In 2019, Zac showed us time and time again that he can mix it with the best key forwards taking several intercept marks and always being willing to put his body on the line. He has recovered from a knee injury late last year and despite a cut to the head and a minor calf injury he is looking ready to have a decent run at things. There is no doubt a long career ahead of Hilly.

KRISTIAN CARY

Whilst his nose is bent, his kicking is usually straight. Bozo Cary is one tough hombre. He is ferocious in his attack on the ball and body, across half forward or in the middle of the ground. One of the only players to welcome COVID delaying the season as his recovering knee will now be right for round one. Sure to feature in the League side once he has regained full fitness, Bozo will be a great buy because you can expect some big hits and a bag of goals at reserves level until his return.

MARSHALL JONES

The boy from York Marshall “Sheriff” Jones! Marshy debuted at a really young age but found some genuine consistency in 2019. He has a fantastic work ethic and is often rewarded for his hard run with some sausage rolls. He will find himself across half forward in 2020 and will be looking to take the next step in both his performance and leadership. Look for his trademark Jonathan Brown like solitary finger salute after slotting one through the big sticks. A really smart buy for this year, and years to come.

NYIKA JOHN

An athletic emerging defender Nyika’s best footy is when he is jumping at the footy and using his attributes. He had some interruptions in 2019 and the preseason, but we are looking forward to him having an impact and pushing his case in 2020. Reach for the stars, and if you miss, you’ll land on the moon Nyika John.

HAMISH MCFARLANE

Hammer is another tough cookie who has come up from the Colts program. He is strongly built and provides a great contest around the footy. He can play in any line on the ground, so the challenge for H is to train hard, learn lots, cement a spot in the Reserves side and then set his sights on League footy. With a stupid peroxide lid, I’m sure he will put in some eye-catching performances this season

JAKE PELITIER

Jakey Pellets is a former Subiaco Colts Captain and has shown us that he has a head on his shoulders beyond his years. He is a well-spoken and composed kid who can seriously run. You will find him across half back or on the wing in 2020. His first hit out against West Perth showed glimpses of a future player. His work rate and willingness to learn is second to none, so expect some solid League performances from this future leader.

GROUP SIX

FRASER MCINNES

Nicknamed the horse for reasons only Masto can divulge, this big unit is returning to his club of origin after a long AFL career with West Coast. He captained their Reserves side last year and will offer plenty of guidance to our developing list. His presence at centre half forward will be welcomed as we can now take confidence long down the line when required. His most prized possession is his road bicycle but plans for an early morning ride are quickly shelved with any suggestion of rain. Welcome home big fella, looking forward to what you can do with the Dees in 2020.

MATT ROGERS

The reigning Ronnie Tucker Medallist, albeit with only 22 goals, Perth’s very own fossil is looking for success in his 10th season of WAFL League footy. There is no point leading if he gets it inside 70, it will be going over your head either for a goal or out on the full.  The arrival of some genuine key forwards has definitely excited the left footer, who has previously stated he’s hoping to get another 23 or more this year.

LENNON MARLIN

Known as ‘deadly ‘, this guy knows how to find the footy. He pulled huge numbers roaming across half back in the Reserves last year which earnt him a League call up. Trialled in the forward line this preseason, Lenno will be desperate to crack a consistent gig, capable of several best on grounds in Reserves and hopefully some time in the League team. Lennon is a fantastic buy and an even better mentor to our Indigenous cohort.

JOSH BURKE

Now sporting a questionable beard, this 2km specialist will put down the shisha in search of a consistent League game in 2020. After some time down back, Burkey bought pace and energy to the League forward line late last year, resulting in some nice goals. If Josh keeps up his work rate and commitment, he will no doubt be having an impact at League level soon enough.

TARKYN BROGAN-HENRY

Nicknamed Tarks, this left footer can seriously kick a footy. You will find him playing as a running defender or on the wing throughout season 2020. Coming up from the Colts he has plenty of upside and with some hard work and confidence can become a bonified League player, if not this year then in the years to come. If you want to catch up with Tarks you can probably stroll into the Mount Henry Tavern on any given Sunday for a yarn.

LACHIE FRASER

Another Colts up-and-comer, Lach is a fantastic athlete who hasn’t let a few niggling injuries get in the way of his elite rig. A serious contender to be the fruit salad at ladies night, Lach is a great size for modern footy and can play all over the ground. He needs to continue to work hard and develop his skills and composure, but we are confident with some consistency in training he will have an impact at some level this year.

REGAN CLARKE

The first player who has ever come up from Colts and given himself a nickname in the first few weeks of pre-season. This self-proclaimed iceman nailed the sealer for the state 18s last year, resulting in a carnival win for WA. His running power is extreme and after his GPS results vs West Perth, a few senior players are wondering how to slow down up a bit. Anyone with Regan’s approach to training is destined to do well. He is always the first to arrive and keen to improve his skills. There is no doubt you will find Regan sprinting from contest to contest on the wing in our League for big periods of 2020.

GROUP SEVEN

MATHEW TAYLOR

The runner-up Butcher Medallist in 2019, Tails will be looking to go one better in 2020. His ability to defend first, then use his pace and ball use to rebound off half back sets up a lot of our attacking play. When he isn’t taking bounces down the far wing he is taking selfies in front of the sunset, so let’s just hope a new found love off the field doesn’t distract him from the task at hand.

AUSTIN DAVIS

The life of the party, a real-life foghorn, this fella just will not shut up! Aussie lets his footy do the talking, a terrific line breaking runner with a neat left foot, this kid has a very bright future at the PFC. Along with Tails, his creativity and hard run is key to our ball movement and with some added experience this year he will break some games open. Confidence and voice are still developing, but the freakish talent is already on display for all to see. Will this be the breakout year for #25?

MITCH BROWNE

Tough as nails, #13 is usually the last guernsey picked up off the deck. A hard working inside mid or pressure forward, Browny has shown glimpses at League level in the past few years, is 2020 the year he can lock down a spot? Time will tell but there will be collisions, corks and bruises either way.

CAELEN PENNY

The world is an oyster for CP in 2020. We are screaming out for someone to make the small forward position their own and if anyone has the talent to do it it’s this man. A sneaky little pocket rocket, CP can kick a goal. If he gets his fitness up and continues to improve his defensive pressure, there’s no reason why his magnet won’t be thrown up at League selection.

AARON LOCICERO

The best American Aussie rules player in the state, and after Mason Cox’s latest performance - probably Australia! Big Az has come on in leaps and bounds in previous seasons. He is now an extremely good one on one and zone off defender, and he probably kicks the ball better than Jonesy did. An extremely likeable gentleman who has grown to become a mentor and leader in our Reserves side. Who knows what selection has in store in 2020? Make this auction great again.

ZAC RIDLEY

A strongly built defender Rid’s has joined us from the Gosnells footy club, his attack on the ball and body may have bought him undone with a few niggles in the preseason but when fully fit can be a tight checking defender who can hit some bodies.

KADE TOMBIDES

Yet another Claremont import, Kade joined us late in pre-season and has shown some ability with his run and carry on the wing. A bit like a few of our younger lads, if Kade applies himself and his confidence grows as he learns the Perth way, we are confident he can give us something in 2020.

GROUP EIGHT

CHRISTIAN EYRES

Left stranded on 99 games after the debacle down in Mandurah late last year, big Eyersy can’t wait to notch up his 100th in round one. With COVID allowing some time to recover from a minor foot niggle, he is in shape and keen to squash some oppo in 2020. His effort and intensity has never been questioned, and with Two Dads up his arse, he will be pushing like he’s never pushed before. Expect a physical contest and some opposition broken ribs from Eyersy this year.

BRENT EDMONDS

Returning at his usual 54 kilos, Eddo has a higher IQ than the entire squad combined. He has a fantastic top speed and gives us great structure off a wing. You may remember a four-goal haul in round one last year, so if that can be repeated you might be in the money with the #33.

JACOB PAYNE

After a few years in the glue factory, Payney returned to the club and had an immediate impact in 2019. His scintillating Reserves form was too good to refuse as he cemented his spot running with the WAFL’s best midfielders in the League side. If you ask him, he’ll tell you they will be tagging him this year. His fitness and work rate are outstanding, so long as his return flight from Bali makes it home before Monday training this year he should be in for a big season.

MITCH LAGUE

Laguey runs in straight lines and has the ability to hurt. Whilst he has battled some niggling injuries in the last 12 months, his early season form last year suggests his best is up there with the best. If given a decent crack at it, hopefully his football can be even better than his Bunker Diary video. Good luck and best wishes Mitchell.

RILEY POBJOY

A forwards nightmare. Riley is the guy our League defenders avoid on a Wednesday night. An extremely honest arm across defender, Riley leaves it all out on the park. Pobbers will be looking to cement his spot and spoil his way to greatness in 2020 and with his work ethic there’s no reason he can’t.

SAM EAST

This rangey tall has come across from the East Perth, having showed some potential under the coach’s nose at Wesley Curtin. An awkward height, Easty is a confident player who will get better and better as he begins to feel comfortable. Someone who can play both ends of the ground, he can be a player to jump out of the ground in 2020. Welcome aboard, Sam.

NATHAN O’DRISCOLL

Already becoming a popular member of the squad young, Nathan oozes talent. As a part of the academy he has trained at a high level over the summer, and at peak fitness will be an exciting left foot prospect. Still well and truly Colts age, this kid has pure ball winning ability that you would want in your group every day of the week.

GROUP NINE

KIERAN DELAHUNTY

Love him or hate him, we have picked up the bigger and better-looking cousin of Subiaco’s Lachie Delahunty. Della has played in country Vic, and more recently the NT, as a key forward and defender, and can pinch hit in the ruck if need be. His fitness and work rate stood out immediately rating highly in our pre-season 2km’er and there’s no doubt he brings some footy IQ to the group. Hopefully he knows our home ground is in Lathlain and not Ascot Racecourse, but if we get his body on track, he will no doubt show the competition who the real Delahunty is.

ANDREW FISHER

The third of the COVID musketeers, Fish played at a high level in the amateurs for a long time before trying his hand with the West Coast Reserves in 2019. He had an immediate impact at WAFL level with his pace and athleticism, making him a dangerous half back. One of the only Eagles to play every game, he polled highly in their BnF and is a welcome addition to the Redlegs for this season.

SAM STUBBS

Stubbsy is another handy pick up for the Dees in 2020, having played in country Vic and more recently representing the pathetic state of Queensland this boy has some tricks. A strongly built small forward who, with some fitness, could pinch hit in the midfield. He offers some much-needed leg speed and goal sense to our forward line. Whilst some untimely injury niggles have held him back slightly, expect Sammy to have a big impact as he gets used to his new colours.

DAKOTA BALDWIN-WRIGHT

The big red head with a mullet and multiple fathers, Two-Dads is a legit Cult figure and Masto’s new favourite player. The reigning Greg Brehaut Medallist, 2020 is the year for Dakota to cement himself as a League ruckman. Some great marks and aggressive follow up work in the scratchy against West Perth suggest it is time for the kid from Moora. A terrific buy.

BRODIE GRAY

Not to be confused with Brady Grey, Brodes in another Colt who is making the leap to senior footy. A strongly built and aggressive player he should add some toughness around the stoppages in 2020. If he continues to work on his skills and use the mountain of midfield knowledge around him at training, the future is bright for this bull. The other handy thing is that if he goes missing, all you need to do is find Lachie Fraser and you’ve found Brody Gray.

THOMAS TEDGE

Tedgey the Tank! This boy tried out and was sent away to work on some things in previous seasons, but he came back with a strong body and incredible fitness base which has earnt him a spot on the list in 2020. A hard working and honest defender, Tedgey will only get better training and playing at WAFL level. Keep up the good work Thomas.

CONNOR SING

The helmet! Another squad favourite, Connor Sing has a bright future in the red and black. A disciplined, pain in the arse defender, Singy is extremely coachable and will play his role from first bounce to last. Although his debut was somewhat of a baptism of fire, we’re sure he learnt plenty and will be back bigger and better in 2020.
