Fremantle Dockers Visit Manning Rippers Girls Squad

Wednesday, May 28, 2014 - 1:14 PM

Last night Fremantle Dockers players Zac Dawson and Michael Johnson (Played for Perth Demons and district clubs Belmont/Vic Park/Kenwick) came out to spend some time talking to and training the Manning Rippers Girls Squad.

Dawson and Johnson spent the first half of the session fielding questions from the girls, giving tips on how to set up in defence, explaining how they sometimes still get nerves like in last years Grand Final, what their favourite positions are, safety tips such as wearing mouth guards, who their favourite opponents are and which teams they supported as a kid.  Dawson's favourite team as a kid was Hawthorn who he was lucky enough to be drafted to in 2003 while Johnson was a West Coast Eagle's supporter growing up.

Dawson and Johnson then took the girls for a training session, showing them some AFL standard drills that the Dockers use on a daily basis. They also gave plenty of tips on how to improve their kicking, marking and handballing technique.

The session wrapped up with the girls receiving signed posters and with parents and kids chatting and taking pictures with the boys.

A great night was had by everyone who attended.
