Clontarf Competitive, But Fall Short In Eagles Schoolboys Cup
On Sunday Clontarf headed to Patterson’s Stadium for their crucial final in the 2014 Eagles Schoolboys Cup against Nagle CC. The game was played as a curtain raiser to the West Coast Eagles and Collingwood Magpies AFL game.
It was perfect weather for bounce down and the boys were so excited to play at the home of football in WA.
Like the previous week against Dongra Clontarf made a fast start and hit the lead early, but the boys from Nagle were in for the fight and came back in the second quarter to grab a 6-point lead at half time.
In a ripping contest of high school footy, we were set for a battle in the second half. Clontarf again came out strong, dominating possession and locking the ball for the majority of the quarter inside forward 50.
As the Collingwood squad, including senior coach Nathan Buckley watched on from the sidelines the boys just couldn’t break through on the scoreboard, despite dominating possession. As so often the story goes, Nagle created a few opportunities against the run of play and converted, giving them control of the match.
Clontarf threw everything at them in the last, but the boys from Geraldton held strong and came out with the win, Nagle 11.5.71 to Clontarf 6.10.46.
The Perth District would like to Congratulate Clontarf on an outstanding season, and for representing the District so proudly. While they fell just short, we know they will be back stronger than ever next year. Well done to Con and his squad!
