Junior Grand Final Results
Recently the junior grand finals were held over the weekend of September 6th and 7th at the home of the Perth Demons, Lathlain Park.
Year 7
Huntingdale vs Thornlie
The weekend kicked off with the inaugural Year 7’s Grand Final. This was a big test for the young kids playing on the wide expanses of Lathlain Park. It was a terrific encounter between local rivals Huntingdale and Thornlie with the Lions holding out to win the flag.
Year 8
Manning vs South Perth
In the toughest conditions for the weekend, the 8’s got underway in heavy rain. It was a grinding slog for three quarters, with South Perth pushing the heavily favoured Manning Rippers who were led by district junior rep and development squads coach Mat Bateman. Manning was able to break the game open late, to secure the 8’s flag.
Year 9
Maddington vs South Perth
The big clash saw the undefeated Maddington Bulls striving for the perfect season but first they had to overcome a tough opponent in the South Perth Stingrays who were led by coach of the year Barrie Smith. It was a tense struggle all game, with South Perth holding the advantage all day. With the upset almost complete, Maddington dug deep and were able to level the scores at the final siren. We moved into extra time and South Perth won the momentum back taking out a stunning victory in one of the best junior games of footy you will see all year. Well done to all involved.
Year 9 Div 2
Redcliffe vs Queens Park
Day two kicked off with the Year 9 division 2 GF. Redcliffe led by young gun Isaiah Gidgeup were able to hold off a surging Queens Park in another outstanding final, which would go on to set the tone for the final day.
Year 10
Vic Park vs South Perth
The final of our Junior Grand Finals saw Vic Park and South Perth go head to head. South Perth were heavily favoured going into the match but Vic Park were coming off a great win where they upset Thornlie in the prelim. It was another closely fought contest with Vic Park holding their own for the majority of the game, before South Perth’s superior class got them over the line in a dominant final term.
Year 11 Brian Cook
Kalamunda v Ballajura
The last Grand Final of the day was the Eastern Conference, Brian Cook Division. Unfortunately no Demons district sides advanced to the final, which was contested by Kalamunda and Ballajura who previously met in the first round of the finals out at Kenwick. Like the prior games this weekend, it was the underdog’s day, with Ballajura boiling over the more fancied Kalamunda Tigers, capping off an incredible weekend of GFs
Thanks to all who supported, to Bendigo Bank Bentley for being our major sponsors on the day and the Demons umpires for a great weekends work.
