Demons Sign Wolfenden
The Perth Football Club would like to welcome Brett Wolfenden who has signed on for the next two seasons.
Wolfenden is no stranger to the WAFL having played 76 games for Swan Districts between 2008 and 2011. He was also a part of Swans 2010 premiership and represented Western Australia in his one and only state game in 2009.
In his first season at Swans he averaged 18.6 possessions a game, kicked 12 goals for the season and finished equal fifth in the Sandover Medal with 25 votes.
He backed that up in 2009 averaging 19.9 possessions a game, kicking 18 goals and polling 19 votes on Sandover Medal night.
Since leaving the WAFL at the end of the 2011 season, Wolfenden went back and played two years at his local club High Wycombe before moving to A-Grade club Swan Athletic this year. He has also been busy concentrating on his career as a transport manager.
“I manage a yard out in Hazelmere where I deal with Rio Tinto and a few other mining companies. This keeps me fairly busy five sometimes six days a week.”
It was because of work that Wolfenden had to stop playing for Swan Athletic half way through the year.
“Work started to catch up with me and I had to play a bit of Sunday League out in the country for Federals Football Club up in Northam.”
After three years away the 25-year-old now believes he is in a position to help mentor the younger players in the group.
“I’ve got a bit more of a head on me now. I’m a bit older and a bit wiser when it comes to footy so I can help with the younger guys.”
“There’s promise when you look at the young boys and even some of the older boys that are still there. From the training sessions that I have been too they seem to be pushing them right up and getting them going.”
“Obviously they have got a new coaching staff and that is always going to accentuate your club when it comes to something new. Hopefully the boys can take that on board and actually want to do something with what they have got now.”
Wolfenden is not sure exactly where he will be playing yet but expects he could be used in a variety of roles in 2015.
“I’ll probably play a bit through the midfield, on the wings and through half forward.”
