DEMONS GO DOWN TO THUNDER IN THRILLER
By Mark Thornber
Round 4, Perth v Peel
Lathlain Park , Saturday 11 April 2015
Perth 3.5 4.9 5.13 9.14 68
Peel 2.2 4.5 5.6 11.7 73
Perth did everything right but bring up a win in a hard fought match against Peel that they lost by 5 points in the dying seconds at Lathlain Park on Saturday.
The Demons came within a whisker of defeating Peel and still had a chance to grab victory late in the match. In windy conditions Perth can probably blame their inaccuracy in front of goal for costing them victory especially in the first half.
Perth showed some good signs throughout the match with veterans Daniel O’Sullivan and Chance Bateman playing their best games for the club for some time. Ben Power continues to show promising signs both in the Ruck and as a Centre Half Forward.
Aidan Tropiano was again simply outstanding picking up 35 touches and must be an early front runner for the Sandover Medal.
Unfortunately former Demon Brendon Jones again played a dominant match against his old team with the Demons simply not being able to keep him quiet. Perth leading by 7 points at three quarter time kicked 4 goals 1 in the last term and when former Swans player Brett Wolfenden and O’Sullivan kicked crucial majors it appeared the home side was home.
The Thunder steadied though and with a couple of late goals to Michael Apeness and the match winner to Leroy Jetta they held on to record a thrilling 5 point win.
Next week Perth tackles the Tigers at the Showgrounds.
Goals: Bateman, O’Sullivan 2, Power, Collard, Gianatti, Chester, Wolfenden.
Best: Tropiano, O’Sullivan, Bateman, Sinclair, Power, McKenna.
