Perth Players return home to grow Regional Zone.

The  Perth Football Club has been able to reach out and engage its regional areas through the ongoing growth of the partnership with Hungry Jack’s. Having the capacity to better resource the clubs community programs and outreach.

Perth Football Club senior players Marshall Jones and Dakota Baldwin-Wright, accompanied by our Community Engagement Manager Fraser McInnes, have been able to return home in recent times and leave a lasting impression on the next crop of potential Perth Football Club juniors coming through the clubs country zone. Jones and Baldwin-Wright grew up in the clubs regional towns of York and Moora respectively.

The visit to York encapsulated a youth leadership session with the York District High School student leaders, a football-based session as well as running an after-school session for the juniors of the local football club, the York Roo’s. ‘For me it is great to give back to the town where I grew up and get home and see my folks. Myself and Zac Fisher (Carlton FC) started off here in the York Roo’s together and went to school at York district high, so to come home and help give back to the kids of the town there is a great sense of pride’.

Members from the York Roo’s Football Club also drove down for the Thursday night Subiaco fixture at Mineral Resources Park in round 9, albeit the spectacle of the match was not eye-catching, the juniors were provided with an inner sanctum look into the club rooms at half time and being able to watch fellow York products on display in Conor Sing and Mitchell Henderson.

Dakota Baldwin-Wright, a Moora product, was able to get back home over the bye weekend as he rehabs his knee injury. Accompanied by club directors Travis Burrows and Brian Cook, the weekend in Moora hosted the Midlands Region Development carnival. With junior sides from the respective regions North Midlands, Central Midlands Coastal, Mortlock, Avon and East Avon participating with plenty of skills on show for the day.

Concurrently a round robin fixture showcasing teenage talent within the Demons country region was on display.  With the teams playing matches after a morning training session Baldwin-Wright conducted. The matches were closely scouted and will help narrow down a squad for the 15’s Perth Football Club Country Development side, which will play in Perth in July. Coached and managed by Millton Milloy and Glen Collins.

Baldwin-Wright was impressed with the level of competition and keen to keep an eye on how they progress at the upcoming carnival. ‘I remember competing in days like this myself as a junior, and then the pathway afforded to us through the 15’s regional carnival a good chance to test ourselves against other WAFL country squads, for the day to be back in Moora was great to get along and give back to the club where I came from as well as our club co-captain Michael Sinclair”
