Tigers too strong for Demons
Perth have gone down by 81 points in the Pike Cup clash against a classy Claremont outfit in front of 500 fans at Mineral Resources Park on Saturday afternoon. The Demons showed plenty of aggression from the get-go restricting the visitors to just two goals in the first quarter and dominated the uncontested ball throughout the whole match despite the final margin.
Experienced midfielder Matthew Taylor was best on ground for the club, racking up twenty-four disposals and taking six marks, while reliable defenders Haydn Busher and Andrew Fisher battled hard in the defensive half, as the Tigers went in with a 42-point lead at the main break. Samuel Stubbs also looked lively in the forward booting two goals, however it was the clean skills of Sandover Medalist’s Bailey Rogers and Jye Bolton that proved to be the difference for the Tigers in the second half as the rain began to pour down.
A five-goal performance by Tyron Smallwood also shut down any thought of some sort of comeback, as the Demons were held goalless in the final term. The Demons will now host the last placed West Coast Eagles in round 18 at Mineral Resources Park, where they’ll be hoping for a repeat of the round one result where they ran out two-point winners in a thrilling finish, as well as to end a fifteen-game losing streak in the competition.
