July Holiday Clinic A Success
On Monday the 14th of July the Perth Demons District and Football Club held our annual Holiday Clinic at Lathlain Park. Over 100 players and kids from around our district braved tough winter conditions to spend a day learning and honing their footy skills. The Kids were split up into their age specific groups of which all carried names of PFC legends and current champions (Brian Cook, Barry Cable, Paul Bevan and Lance “Buddy” Franklin).
The first round of activities worked on game based learning, allowing the kids to partake in fun games while learning fundamentals and motor skills. We were very fortunate to have our soon to be co tenants the West Coast Eagles playing group join us halfway through the first session. Former Perth aligned players Frasier McGuiness, Simon Tunbridge, Ash Smith, Sam Butler, Sharrod Wellingham stopped by as well as rookie Adam Carter, champion ruckman Dean Cox and gun midfielder Luke Shuey. The boys spread out between the 4 stations and helped run, conduct coaching, tips and techniques for all the kids. During the morning tea break the players setup in front of the grandstand for a signing and photo session.
The second round of activities involved more skill based training with tackling techniques, goal kicking and even modified variations of official AFL draft combine tests again led under the watchful eye of the WCE players.
It was time for lunch and all kids were supplied a fresh homemade roll to keep them energized. The final session of the day was a set of modified scratch matches for all the kids to put the morning’s tips into action. Staying in their age groups the four fields got underway with our clinic coordinators umpiring and there was a lot of talent on display over the half hour period.
As the end of the day approached, the kids came in for the final presentations. A couple of lucky kids were awarded a Perth Demons jumper for their great efforts on the day. All participants received a show bag of goodies including a drink bottle and Perth Demons skill footy as well as a signed WCE poster.
It was a great day had by all, a big thank you to everyone who came down on what were very tough conditions. Looking forward to seeing everyone back next year!
