DEMONS DESTROYED BY LIONS
Round 18, Perth v Subiaco
Medibank Stadium, Saturday 25 July 2015
Perth 1.1 3.1 5.1 5.49 34
Subiaco 4.2 11.5 18.12 25.17 167
Reigning Premiers Subiaco flexed their muscles against an inexperienced Perth side to run out easy winners by 134 points in a one sided match in fine conditions at Medibank Stadium on Saturday.
The match was only seconds old with Subiaco looking threatening by dominating the centre clearances and key forwards Matt Boland and Shane Yarran kicking early goals.
Perth did manage a goal for the term through exciting youngster Marshall Jones, however still trailed the Lions by 19 points at the first change. The second quarter saw the home side gain complete control of the match with Sam Menagola and Kyal Horsley picking up possessions at will.
Despite Aidan Tropiano and Michael Sinclair trying hard Perth simply had few options up forward as Subi kicked 7 goals to 2 to hold a comfortable lead at half time.
The third quarter saw the Lions continually entering their forward line with Boland in particular proving a dangerous opponent for the Perth defenders to shut down. Perth’s lone key forward Jones bobbed up to boot 2 goals but the margin at three quarter time had blown out to an insurmountable 89 points in what was proving a very disappointing day at the football for Perth supporters.
The last quarter unfortunately for Perth supports was much of the same as Subiaco pilled on 7 goals for the term with Boland finishing with 7 majors. The Demons could only mange 3 points, and only had draft prospect Marshall Jones as their only key forward all day kicking 3 goals.
Once again Perth lacked height and experience in most positions around the ground with Sandover Medal favourite Tropiano again picking up 30 possessions and was well supported by Sinclair collecting 29 touches in the midfield.
Next week Perth returns home to Lathlain Park on Saturday to play the Sharks.
Goals: Jones 3, McKenna, Walley 1.
Best: Tropianno, Sinclair, Morton, McKenna, Payne, Jones.
