Round 19 Match Report
Perth have suffered a 63-point loss at the hands of Subiaco at Leederville Oval on the weekend. The Demons couldn’t spoil the reigning premiers’ party who were celebrating the retirement of 5x premiership player and Sandover Medalist Lachlan Delahunty, and captain Leigh Kitchin who played game 150. It was a slow start for the Demons after scoring only one behind in the first quarter, which forced them to play catch up footy the rest of the way through. In an inaccurate affair the Demons had more scoring shots but couldn’t convert them, kicking eleven behinds while only managing four goals in total.
Recruit Kieran Hug slotted two of those to go along with eighteen disposals, while Samuel Stubbs and Harry Quartermaine made sure they didn’t walk away without any goals to add to their season tally kicking one major each. Despite being outplayed for significant periods of the match, the midfield and defence continued to fight on with Haydn Busher (25 disposals and five marks), Matthew Taylor (25 disposals) and Kristian Cary (21 disposals, six marks and five inside fifties) among the key contributors. Veteran Chris Mayne also had his strongest game in Demon’s colours since returning from the AFL, taking eight marks and having an impactful 24 touches.
The Demons will be keen to end what has been a tough 2022 on a high in front of their loyal supporters, when they face South Fremantle at Mineral Resources Park this Saturday afternoon. Bouncedown is at 2.10pm.
