Five representatives from the Perth District that recently competed at the Nicky Winmar Carnival will head over to Coffs Harbour this week to play for Western Australia in the KickStart Championships.

Two players from Bassendean JFC headline the group.  Terre Yarran who won the best and fairest for the Perth District team is regarded as a very strong, hard running midfielder and Chilton Yarran who is a creative half back flanker with exceptional skills and an uncanny ability to read the play.

Kyle Ugle from York JFC performed very well in the Nicky Winmar carnival as a small forward.  He created plenty of opportunities and managed to get on the end of a few goals, including the last goal of the grand final that sealed the game.  Ugle was also part of the 14’s Robert Wiley Development Squad.

Troy Jones from Kelmscott JFC is a hard running midfielder with great skills and a fierce appetite for the ball.  He was runner-up best and fairest for the Perth District team.

One of the assistant coaches for the Perth side was Hayden Yarran.  Hayden is a very promising coach and now gets his opportunity as head coach of Western Australia.  He has previously coached the 14’s side in the Maali Carnival, which was held late last year.

Congratulations to all the boys mentioned above.  They should be very proud of themselves for making it this far after being handpicked from a squad of roughly two hundred players and coaches.

The KickStart Championships commence this Friday, 11th of April and run until Wednesday, 16th of April.  The competition will be very demanding on the boy’s bodies as they will be playing two games a day for the duration of the carnival.

This is a great opportunity for the boys to show their talent to AFL scouts and talent managers. The best players from the KickStart Championships will have the opportunity to compete in an All-Star game against the best Oceania players.  This could lead to them getting selected in the Flying Boomerangs U16 Squad.
