Dene White 100 Games

Thursday, March 19, 2015 - 12:00 PM by Andrew Owen

The Perth Football Club would like to wish our Captain, Dene White, all the best when he takes to the field this Saturday against Swan Districts.  The match will see White play his 100th WAFL game and will also see him lead out the team for the first time as captain.

Since White has returned to the Demons from his 2012 sabbatical with the fire academy, his game as gone to a new level.  In two seasons he has not missed a match, won his first Butcher Medal last year and now in his eighth season at Perth will captain the club.

“It’s just a great honour to be a part of the names that have done it before me at the Perth Football Club.”

However there were some stages where White thought that this milestone might not happen.

“You go through ups and downs as a player and sometimes there might be a year where you are on the fringe and you are not playing as much league football as you would like and that makes you drop out the next year."

“It was a goal to play 100 games and after each season I thought I’ll play a few league games and if I play a couple more I’m not far from 100.”

“It’s something that you don’t really think about but there’s definitely times where I’ve thought that I won’t get there and it’s a bit too hard but Perth Football Club is a great club to be a part of and it’s pretty easy to just come back each season.”

White credits having 2012 off in helping him come back to the club and display the consistent form that he has over the past two seasons.

“I was able to get away from footy completely and put a few things into perspective.”

“I have a more relaxed approach about it now.  Well not really relaxed but realising when things aren’t going your way there’s a lot worse things going on in the world.”

“It definitely refreshed the mind and matured me as a player I believe.”

When asked that if his new role as captain would change the way he approaches games, White had this to say.

“Nothing changes from my perspective.  I’m just going to be the same person and the same bloke around the boys and just try my best come game day.
