Round 3 Preview Perth V West Perth
This week Perth takes on West Perth in round three of the McDonalds WAFL Premiership season.
Last week a stirring fight back by the Demons saw them fall just short against the Bulldogs, going down by 10-points while the Falcons were too good for a Peel Thunder team that was filled with AFL players, winning by 7-points.
Perth has lost the last six games against West Perth and the last time they beat them was back in round 18, 2011 when they recorded a 29-point win. From that game only Chris Billings and Michael Florio still remain at the club.
Perth will have to be wary of a strong West Perth midfield which was in full force against the Thunder last week. Aaron Black, Andrew Strijk, Shane Nelson and Rohan Kerr combined for 122 possessions and provided great service for Michael Lourey who kicked four goals and Kody Manning who kicked three.
In what will be a considered a huge blow, the Demons will be without Jarryd Morton who injured his quad in the first quarter against the Bulldogs.
West Perth (Reserves) had a thumping 58-point victory over Peel Thunder last week while Perth (Reserves) continued their disappointing start to the season going down to South Fremantle by 93-points. Michael Florio (20 possessions, 6 marks, 5 I50) and Kieran Hug (19 disposals, 8 tackles) responded well to being dropped and could come back into contention for a league game this week.
West Perth (Colts) had a good 39-point win against Peel Thunder last week while the Perth (Colts) came from behind to defeat South Fremantle by 35-points. In what was a remarkable turnaround for the Demons they were able to kick 11 goals in the second half and keep the Bulldogs to only three points. Chapman Jones, Quinton Narkle, Corey Byrne, Kayle Phillips, George Keith and Ben Cable were particularly impressive.
