Steel Blue Oval
Demons Overrun By Bulldogs
A dominant last quarter has seen South Fremantle record a 38-point victory over Perth at Fremantle Oval on Saturday.
It was a tough contest all day before a run of four goals in five minutes halfway through the final quarter gave the Bulldogs some ascendancy.
Josh Pullman kicked four goals and had a hand in several others to help his team to a 17.10 (112) to 11.8 (74) victory. Cody Leggett and Jarryd Morton both kicked three goals for the Demons.
Perth couldn’t miss in the first quarter kicking five straight goals while South Fremantle missed some sitters kicking an inaccurate 4.5 (29).
The Demons kicked the first goal of the second quarter courtesy of a free kick to Mitch Morton but goals to Paul Mugambwa, Jacob Dragovich, Shaun Bewick and two from Pullman had the Bulldogs 23-points up. Late goals to Jacob Payne and Dene White though saw Perth only 10-points down at half time.
The Demons came out firing at the start of the third quarter with Leggett bagging two goals. Perth possibly could have kicked a couple more though with the ball spending long periods of time down in the Demons forward line.
South Fremantle were kept goalless until the 20 minute mark of the term when Cory Dell’Olio kicked truly, giving the Bulldogs a six point lead heading into the final quarter.
Perth missed some opportunities in front of goal early in the final term before South Fremantle went down the other end and kicked the first two goals, extending their lead to 15-points.
When Leggett kicked his third the Demons had a pulse and were only nine points behind. The Bulldogs then went up a gear kicking the next five goals, sealing the 38-point win.
Despite his influence on the game being quelled by Ryan Cook in the last quarter, Aidan Tropiano (36 possessions, 10 tackles, 3 I50’s) continued his good form and was supported by Liam McKenna (28 disposals, 5 marks, 4 I50’s), Michael Sinclair (27 possessions, 6 marks, 8 tackles), Dene White (22 disposals, 5 marks, 6 tackles, 1 goal), Jacob Payne (21 possessions, 7 marks, 5 tackles, 3 I50’s, 1 goal) and David Johnston (14 disposals, 31 hitouts, 3 I50’s) who was solid in the ruck.
Congratulations must also go to Todd Stevenson who made his league debut for the club.
In the other grades South Fremantle (reserves) defeated Perth (reserves) by 33-points while Perth (colts) snatched a one point victory over South Fremantle (colts).
Kurtis Chester (19 possessions, 7 marks, 5 I50’s, 2 goals), Reid Polak (15 disposals, 4 marks, 4 tackles 2 I50’s) in his first game after being promoted from the colts and Brennan Stack (3 goals) stood out in what was disappointing day for the reserves.
John Levien (30 possessions, 6 marks, 4 tackles, 4 I50’s) continued his excellent form over the last month in the colts while Kayle Phillips (23 disposals, 5 marks, 4 tackles), Kirk Howes (21 possessions, 3 marks, 4 tackles) and James Bereyne (3 goals) all performed well.
